Addressing dog and cat behavior issues in the Central New York area.

Why hire an Animal Behavior Consultant?

As pet owners, we want our animals to be happy, safe, and good companions. Unfortunately, some pets develop behavioral problems that make this very difficult. Dogs suffer from issues such as separation anxiety, thunderstorm phobias, fear and aggression toward other animals or toward humans, and house-soiling. Cats sometimes are fearful of humans, do not use their litterboxes, or have rivalry with other pets or children. These and other behavioral issues can inhibit our enjoyment of our pets, and diminish their quality of life. As an
animal behavior consultant, I am committed to helping you work with your pet to manage these issues. While you may have ideas of how to help your pets, and may have even tried before to address your pet’s behavior problems, it’s important to have the support of a qualified professional to create a treatment plan and guide you through implementing it. Many pet owners are simply overwhelmed by the work it will take to get their pet’s problem behavior addressed. While it does take significant effort to help a pet through these kinds of difficulties, I will work with you to simplify the process, provide support, and strengthen your relationship with your pet along the way.

What’s the process?

The process of assessing and addressing your pet's behavioral issue begins with a visit to your home. I will schedule a time to visit, meet your pet or pets, and ask question about your pet's behavioral history and your concern. These visits typically take about two hours. During this time, you can ask any questions you may have and share information, and we will discuss treatment options. I will work with you to identify a treatment plan and determine the support you will need in carrying it out. After this visit, I am available for follow up to provide continued assistance in ensuring that you and your pet are making progress toward your goals. Further, I will consult with your veterinarian as needed to discuss medication or other medical concerns. I am also available to work with you and your pet on an ongoing basis to apply the treatment plan, if desired.

How much does it cost?

Consultations are provided throughout the central New York area. The fee is $130 for one pet, which includes the initial visit and follow-up telephone or email conversations within the three month period following the visit, with an additional $30 fee for each additional pet in a multi-pet consultation. A travel surcharge may be added for consultations located more than 25 miles from my home area.
